Did you know that the FAC was revoked before the guy did the killings in Dunblane? I got this info from some newsgroups and people of this area.
It looks like that he had "forgotten" to renew his FAC and was technically in the possession of illegal firearms. But none of the officials up there did ever bother to check this nor to collect his guns. They were only waiting until this cruel crime took place, to get the punishment on all those people who decide to go for target/IPSC-shooting.
Even members of his family have expressed their concerns about him possessing those weapons. But as we all know, it was not of "public interest" until it come down to useless bloodshed.
I feel really sorry for the victims, but I don't want to see all shooters get criminalised, as it happened. The result is that this "law" was complete useless as the incidents with illegal firearms did not stop. But the politicians had their fun :-<
